Children’s Dentistry & CDBS

What is CDBS?

The Child Dental Benefits Schedule (CDBS) is a scheme run by Medicare that provides children of eligible families with a rebate to pay for a range of dental services.

Who can use it?

Through the Commonwealth-funded Child Dental Benefits Schedule (CDBS), children aged 2 to 17 years old may be provided with basic dental access, capped at $1,000 over two calendar years.

From early as 1,or when their first tooth erupts, little ones should make visits to the dentist, who aim to make what can be a nervous experience, a beneficial and comfortable one.

At Avoca Beach Dental, our practice considers prevention of dental disease as a priority, and this starts with children’s dentistry. By starting from a young age, young children become familiar with a dental check-up & the dental environment. It also allows for professional practitioners to provide dietary and oral hygiene advice to ensure healthy oral habits from the start. This also means that by safe and simple dental visits, children do not grow up with a fearful misconception about visiting the dentist, but rather, see it for the fruitful experience it is.

What services can I use it for?

  • examinations
  • X-rays
  • cleaning
  • fissure sealing
  • fillings
  • root canals
  • extractions, and
  • partial dentures

Within the assigned cap, this is over two consecutive calendar years, with the period starting from when a child or teenager first gets an eligible dental service. These eligibility through CDBS does not cover orthodontic, cosmetic dental work, or dental services provided in hospital.

If your child is eligible for this scheme, it means no out of pocket expenses for the above-mentioned services.

Why is this important?

By being granted access to a health service so vital for our overall wellbeing, children are allowed the opportunity to seek the professional treatment, advice and guidance of a dentist. This means that routine check-ups set the standard for strong oral health, work as a preventive measure and most importantly, positively contribute to the wellbeing of individuals.
